Anchor points are designed to be permanently fixed to a supporting structure in order to fasten personal protective equipment (PPE) as operators work at heights. We must take into account that this type of anchoring significantly limits the user’s mobility. They are considered a fall arrest device according with the European standard EN ISO 795: 2012 class A. These kind of devices are called “structural anchor points” as they are permanently fixed to a supporting structure. The wide scope of available fixings allows AITANA SAFETY anchoring devices ensuring safety in any situation and any type of supporting structure (concrete, wood, trapezoidal sheet, metal decks, steel girders, etc.). Depending on the type of device, they can be used not only for fall arrest or restraint system for people working at height, but also for securing mountaineering work (continuous suspension).
Anchor points EN ISO 795 A uses
EN ISO 795 anchor points allows to quickly create a safety place to fasten personal protective equipment (PPE) in a fall hazard area where it is not possible to install collective protective equipment. Depending on the type of supporting structure, we can choose the most suitable kind of anchor point (also taking into account the insulation layers). The installation of this type of anchoring device is simple. We just need to fix the device to the supporting structure following the manufacturer’s instructions. At the end, it is very important to check that the anchor point can withstand the loads specified in the EN ISO 795 European Standard. AITANA SAFETY offers anchor points designed for installation on:
-
- Concrete substrate
- Wood
- Steel
- Trapezoidal sheets and sandwich panels
Depending on the type of anchoring device, they can only be used by one user at a time or by multiple users at once. In order to improve work at height, sometimes anchor points are equipped with a stainless steel swivel eye bolt attached to the base of the device that rotates 360°. This allows better mobility for the user in the fall hazard area. Anchor points are made of stainless steel to withstand adverse weather conditions.
Advantages of using anchor points EN ISO 795 A
- a very economical solution for securing operators working at heights requiring small movements.
- reliability and functionality
- different models depending on the characteristics of the support structure and the type of work involved
- can be self-assembled following the manufacturer’s instructions
Legal basis – European standard EN ISO 795
European standard EN ISO 795 – Personal fall protection equipment – Anchor devices – Requirements and tests – defines test methods and requirements that roof anchoring devices must meet. In addition, the above standard introduces a classification in six different classes for roof anchoring devices. Anchor points supplied by AITANA SAFETY are tested and certified by notified bodies according to this European standard as class A. These devices are also known as structural anchor points as they are fixed to the supporting structure in a permanent manner.
We should always remember that Council Directive 89/391/EEC, defining preventive action principles, prioritizes collective protection equipment (CPE) over personal protective equipment (PPE) such as EN ISO 795 anchorage devices. Legal provisions clearly state that lifelines, anchor points as well as other roof anchoring devices certified according to EN ISO 795 standard, should only be used when it is not possible to install collective protection equipment (CPE).
AITANA SAFETY - reliable fixed and portable anchor points
For more than ten years, AITANA SAFETY has been offering innovative technology to ensure safety work at height. Depending on the type of hazard, as well as the characteristics of the holding structure, we offer a variety of roof anchoring devices. All our anchor devices have been successfully tested by independent notified bodies in accordance with the European standard EN ISO 795.
Final conclusions
EN ISO 795 anchor points are an ideal solution for securing people working at height in fall hazard areas where collective protection equipment cannot be installed. This type of devices are called “structural anchor points” and they are certified according to PN EN 795 as Class A. As they are attached to the supporting structure in a permanent way.
