Fernando Palazón Casamayor
Independent Expert and Technical Sales Advisor at AITANA SAFETY | Collective Protection Equipment (CPE) and Occupational Health & Safety
My name is Fernando Palazón and since 2011 I have been advising investors, general contractors, occupational health and safety professionals, site managers and industrial plant managers in Poland and Central Europe on the selection of fall protection systems for industrial facilities and construction sites. I specialise in collective protection equipment (CPE), particularly roof guardrails, safety nets and certified roof walkways compliant with European standards. In practice, my work focuses on technical advice, analysis the type of hazard involved and selection of the appropriate safety solutions, taking into account the characteristics of the facility, the type of work carried out and the applicable technical requirements and regulations.
My professional background
- Early 2000s. I came to Poland doing market research for Spanish companies. When one of them decided to build a factory in Poland, I led the greenfield factory project: supervising construction, managing a 50 people team and setting up the administrative structure. Working on my own in a foreign language and dealing with the authorities at the time was the best business school I could have had — and it laid the foundation for my subsequent years in the Polish industrial and construction markets, including more than eleven years as finance director of a manufacturing company.
- 2011 – present. I began working in fall protection as an independent technical-sales advisor for AITANA SAFETY. Since then, my work has focused on selecting collective protection equipment (CPE): analysing projects, proposing solutions, preparing quotations and dealing directly with clients, as well as coordinating a fitters’ network in Poland and the Czech Republic.
- 2013 – present. I became an external technical sales representative for SYSTEMA SAFETY in the Polish and Czech markets: technical project analysis, preparing quotations and liaising directly with construction firms, companies specialising in work at height, and health and safety departments.
My professional experience is primarily B2B, which is the reason why the material I publish focuses not only on the products themselves but also on how they are used, on choosing the appropriate solution, and on the practical aspects of work-at-height safety.
Areas I work in and write about on this blog
- Collective Protection Equipment (CPE): promoting passive solutions that protect workers continuously and do not require them to carry out additional safety procedures.
- Roof and freestanding guardrails, PN-EN ISO 14122-3: especially non-penetrating freestanding guardrails for flat roofs, installed without compromising the waterproofing structure.
- Roof safety systems — roof walkways and skylight protection systems, fixed access ladders, safe access to rooftop equipment.
- Safety nets and netting protection: application and installation of EN 1263-1 S, T, U and V type safety nets for protecting work on industrial halls, bridges and viaducts and along building edges. Falling objects protection netting.
- Formwork safety solutions — protection during reinforced-concrete construction work.
- Health and safety and work at height — when regulations require collective protection equipment, when personal protective equipment is permitted, and how the selection hierarchy works.
I try to present these subjects from a practical point of view, relating them to the real needs of companies and of the people responsible for workplace safety.
Why do I write about these topics?
Fall protection is an area in which choosing the right solution has a direct impact on the safety of people carrying out work. Over the years working in the Polish and Czech markets, I have had the opportunity to learn about the practical problems faced by construction companies, companies carrying out work at height and people responsible for safety.
That is why on this blog I want to share practical experience concerning collective protection equipment, roof safety systems, safety nets and other solutions used to protect against falls from height.
Many serious falls from height result from a lack of knowledge or the use of inappropriate protective measures. Personal protective equipment (harnesses, lanyards) can fail because of human error. Collective protection equipment (CPE), such as roof guardrails or safety nets, provides the first and most effective line of defence. This is not a sales argument – the same hierarchy is established by European Directive 89/391/EEC and national regulations. Collective protection equipment (CPE) prevents falls more effectively than personal protective equipment (PPE), because it works continuously and does not require any additional action from the worker or individual tie-offs.
Languages
Working on industrial and construction projects requires precise technical communication. I have worked in an international environment for more than 25 years. I work every day in four languages: Spanish (native), Polish and English at full professional proficiency, and French at basic professional level – I studied French at the Université Michel de Montaigne in Bordeaux.

The aim of the published materials is to present technical topics as clearly and practically as possible, to make the available solutions and their applications easier to understand.
